How is everyone? I hope you are well and enjoying some great novels!
I initially saw Disarm The Complete Novel at Indigo and the cover instantly caught my attention, and then the story also intrigued me, but it was $7 less on Kobo so being the eBook lover that I am I bought it as soon as I got home. And I started reading it last night and couldn't put it down. As in I was falling asleep at 3 am with my kobo in my hand not being able to put it down.
To give you a quick summary, Disarm is about Elsie and her best friend/surrogate older brother/roommate/older brothers best friend, Henry. Henry is Airforce, and so was her big brother before he was killed by a snipper in Afghanistan. Sparks fly, passions flare, all that shebang.
Basically the whole "girl falls in love with big brothers best friend" is possibly my favourite story line, tied with anything to do with a tattooed MMA fighter (Love you Gina Maxwell!). So that part I loved, but this story was a little different.
Basically Disarm was originally written in 6 parts as 6 ebooks released separately, but now it has been combined into one complete novel that you can either get in print or also on ebook. And I'm almost wondering if I should have read them as individual novellas instead of one long book. It was very good and the story was intriguing but it seemed almost choppy. There were big jumps that I was kind of like please slow down. Maybe it's because I read it as one story?
I did like the story though, a lot. I love the angst, I loved the drama and the passion and the love! The story progressed quickly which was good and bad but it was nice that certain bits didn't drag on and I love that there was a really good HEA! But seriously the drama and the angst was such a guilty pleasure for me, I just wanted to keep reading!
Okay so now my only major complaint is........ NO EPILOGUE! Or at least not the epilogue that I wanted. In stories like this I want an little snippet from 6 months-1 year down the road, maybe when she tells him that she is pregnant, or the birth of their child. I like when the epilogue extends past the wedding, I like to see a pregnancy or a baby, because it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling! Yes that may be a little bit strange, but we all like what we like. So fingers crossed we get a novella with a little tidbit of their life together further down the road.
Overall I give this a solid 3 1/2 stars maybe even 4. It was really good, it just wasn't mind blowing. I will definitely check out more of this authors books though!
But I would definitely recommend it if you like angst-y stories and a good pairing.
Thank you for reading my review! I hope you enjoyed it! Please let me know what you thought either on my review or your thoughts if you read the book!
