I think this book should come with tissues and an antipuff eye cream because my eyes are going to be puffy as all hell tomorrow morning from bawling my eyes out and full blown ugly crying for the last hour of reading it.
6 shiny tear covered stars for Losing Hope, another beautiful story beautifully written by a beautiful author.
I loved Hopeless, and I loved Sky's journey. I wasn't really expecting to like this one as much because I thought it would just be Hopeless from Holder's POV and I didn't want to read the story twice if y'all know what I'm saying. But Holder went on a completely different journey that was tied into Sky's but had so much more to do with Les and it really broke my heart but also put me back together.
In Hopeless Les is a mystery beside the fact that she took her own life and the whole thing revealed in the end (if you have read Hopeless you know what it is, if you haven't, well get on it lady (or gent!)) but in Losing Hope, Dean starts writing in a journal that she left behind, which I think is a great way to get to know a character better because it seems a lot more intimate. We learn bits and pieces about their childhood and Dean's devastation about losing his sister (because unlike Holder I think that devastation is not just reserved for mothers, it's for brother's too.)
What made me really sad is the thought that Sky will never get to see her friend again.
Colleen Hoover has this amazing ability to bring me to tears (and I am an emotional person so this isn't saying a ton) but she also has the ability to bring me to my knees, it is so easy to get invested in her characters and feel everything they are feeling because she writes them so well. When I read Hopeless, my heart shattered along with Sky's, and in Losing Hope it was a little less intense but so much more in some ways because Dean was really a mystery in Hopeless. This novel completely illuminated him and honestly really bares his soul to the reader.
So yeah, I cried a lot while reading this but I feel like Les and Dean both got to have their story and it really was beautiful.
Without a doubt this is a must read. I enjoyed the Slammed trilogy but Hopeless and Losing Hope captivated me much more and I would easily put them both in my top 25, maybe even top 10.
I know this is supposed to be the last one in the series but I would love a book set later down the road that includes some college and a proposal and their wedding and their kids, or even a bonus epilogue chapter on Colleen Hoover's blog ****(hint hint nudge nudge wink wink Ms. Hoover)***** because I want to read about them when they are all happy and married and stuff because I am a hopeless romantic and need it pretty please! I would even be happy with an ebook novella, pretty, pretty please with sugar and sprinkles on top Colleen Hoover!
Thanks for taking the time to read this review, I hope you enjoyed it!
