Hello Book Lovers!
Okay so I know I am going way out of order with this review but I read this book in less than 48 hours and needed to review it while it is still fresh in my mind.
So Let Me Be The One is the sixth instalment in the Sullivan's series by the lovely Bella Andre. And I have to tell you, it is just as phenomenal as the first five. This woman cannot write a bad book! I've tried looking for a flaw, a little writing thing that bugged me so I can say more than "it's amazing!" but there is nothing I can critique except she has ruined me for any other men besides a Sullivan!
Okay calming down now. Let Me Be the One is about Ryan Sullivan, the star baseball player of the family and his long time best friend Vicki Bennett, a nomadic sculpture artist who has returned to San Francisco and needs Ryan's help. The pair initially met in high school and have lost touch over the years but as soon as Vicki asks Ryan for help, he is there at her side like a knight in shinning armour (is anyone else swooning yet?). Even as they reconnect they are both holding back, both afraid of losing their friendship forever. Meanwhile Ryan is Vicki's pretend boyfriend, helping to protect her from a manipulative man.
So pretty much this is another great swoon worth story. The character development is fantastic, mostly in Vicki, she rely went from demure and soft to a bit of a badass which I really appreciate, and Ryan changed in his own way, not as much as Vicki but there was a bit of a mindset change. The reason I always comment on this in my reviews is I hate when there is no character development, Bella Andre always seems to develop her characters very nicely.
The description was perfect once again, she does just the right amount so I can picture the setting and really see where they are and get a feel of the places and the characters without it becoming boring or too much. Especially Vicki's studio, that was a place I could really picture myself in and I found it to be a comforting place, a place that I would love to work if I were a sculptor.
And of course, the steamy factor. Once again Bella Andre delivered hot, steamy, sensual love scenes while still being very tasteful about it. And as I said she has also ruined me for any man other than a Sullivan. The Sullivan's are dominant but also very gentle and loving and have no problem giving up the reins to their partner. There are books I have read where the sex is just not tasteful, sometimes you get trashy (and not in a good way) sex scenes that are just meh. The scenes in series are always very romantic and passionate and since you are so invested in the characters that makes it even better. So yes once again, the love scenes get 5 steamy stars because they are tasteful, hot and still sweet as sugar.
The thing with the Sullivan's is I find I get very emotionally committed to the books, especially as I continue the series, I feel like my heart and my stomach go on a roller coaster with the story as whenever a heart is broken (there always seems to be heartbreak and pain before the HEA which is always brilliant) and I find myself in tears and my chest clenching. This is another sign of a great writer for me.
So yes this was another ovary quivering book that I just absolutely loved and was so impressed with. I am also glad that I will get to read a book about Rafe Sullivan because he already has me intrigued. So if you haven't started the Sullivan's series, get your lovely bum off the couch and go to the nearest book store and get every single one they have because you will not be disappointed!
Oh and big thanks to the lovely Bella Andre for tweeting me, it definitely made my day and I am always really touched when authors take time to chat to readers.
I hope your 2014 is great so far!
Peace, Love, and I want a Sullivan!
