Hello Beauty Lovers!
I am super excited to be reviewing the jane iredale Starter Kit for all of you! Jane Iredale is a cruelty free company and some of their products are vegan and gluten free. Mineral makeup is one of those things that has always fascinated me because it focuses on not just covering your imperfections but also being good for you skin. The Starter Kit that I received is in the shade Light and includes the Smooth Affair Primer, the Amazing Base in Warm Silk, the PurePressed Base in Warm Silk, a Mini Powder Brush and POMMIST. If you are new to mineral makeup this is the perfect kit for you because you get to experience both a pressed and a loose powder and you get the primer and setting spray, which I think are really essential in any makeup routine. So I am going to break down this review product by product and then how they all work together. This kit retails for $76 CAN and has a value of $94 CAN. This is an amazing way to get started with mineral makeup both as a gift for someone else or for yourself. You can purchase it here!
There is a a handy online quiz that can help you determine both your perfect shade and your perfect product, I found it to be ver helpful, check it out here!
Amazing Base
Let me just start by saying I love powder foundations, I always prefer them to powder because I find that they are better on my uneven skin and hide dry patches better than liquid, they also feel a lot better on the skin. This is by far the best I have tried. Here are the claims on the website:
I would say that it is light coverage that you can build to medium coverage. The SPF in it is great because lets be honest, some of us (myself included) slack when it comes to SPF protection, so I always appreciate when it is built in to my products. I love that it is free of oil, dyes, talc and parabens because that just isn't stuff you need on your skin. I will say it covered my redness incredibly well, like almost completely without any concealer. It canceled out my redness while still looking like my skin, and it feels like nothing is on my face. And it didn't show ANY dry patches, which was amazing because I do have eczema and sometime products will show how bumpy and rough my skin is. This product did not show any of it, it blurred the imperfections and made my skin look normal. The only critique I have is that the shade is a little dark for my skin, when I order the full size I will get the shade Ivory instead because it is a little lighter and more neutral.

PurePressed Base
I have always loved pressed powders, there is a convenience and an ease of use with them. Personally I always have a pressed powder foundation in my bag because I find they are great for touch ups throughout the day, especially if you have allergies like me and are always blowing your nose. I have not yet tried the PurePressed Base by itself as a foundation because the coverage is more sheer as per the website and I like extra coverage. How I used it today was to blot my nose throughout the day as it is crazy hot in my city. I also used it to add a little extra coverage to my under eyes and blemishes with a small precise brush that picks up a bit more product.
I am going to try using this as my primary foundation tomorrow to see how it does by itself and then I will be able to give a more comprehensive review. It does say that the coverage is sheer so I'm not expecting it to cover anything, but it might be nice when I just want to do brows, mascara and a quick bit of coverage. I find pressed powders to be very travel friendly. I really like that it also has SPF protection and again it leaves out some ingredients that just really aren't good for your skin. It seems to be a little lighter than the loose powder even though it is the same shade so this colour does work a bit better on me.

Smooth Affair Facial Primer and Brightener
To start out I am in love with how this primer smells! It just smells so fresh and light and natural and it feels great going onto the skin. I think that this primer is going to become an essential part of my makeup routine, especially when I am wearing mineral makeup or any other powder foundation. It somehow magically softens and hydrates skin while also mattifying oil so powder goes on seamlessly. I am going to try it with some of my other powder foundations just to see how it improves the wear because a good primer can make a good foundation an amazing foundation. And I did actually notice a huge difference in my skin even just after applying the primer, my cheeks were less red and my skin tone was more even. I have never, ever experience that with a primer before. I do also have very sensitive skin and I had no issues. Here are a few facts from the jane iredale website:
I am going to be ordering a full size pretty soon because I don't know how I will be able to live without this primer!

POMMISST Hydration Spray
Setting spray's are something I am rather new too, I've never really used them until recently when I purchases Urban Decay's Chill setting spray in preparation for summer. I use it whenever I wear full makeup, and I like it, I think it does extend the wear of my makeup by an hour or two, but I didn't really get a wow factor from it. But I an tell you that POMMISST has a wow factor, I can't believe how much I love this product.
Once again here is a snippet of what the website says about the product:
First things first, the smells is incredible, absolutely amazing, it is sweet and refreshing and just makes me happy to use it. It does not smell artificially fragranced or give me a sinus headache like a lot of scented products can. It just has a light, gorgeous smell to it that is very calming before starting the day. It does an excellent job of setting mineral foundation, I did notice that my foundation is looking incredible even on hour 7, it has not crease under my eyes, it is still sitting on my nose properly, and it has barely creased around my mouth. I will definitely be purchasing a full size, and the nice thing is there is also a refill so you get 281mL (9.5 fl oz) which is three times the regular size so you are basically getting three refills for the price of two.

Mini Brush
This little brush is really cute, I do find it takes time to cover my whole face with such a small brush but the application is very precise which is nice. And it's always just awesome to get some sort of application brush with kits like this, especially if you don't have anything at home. I like how flat topped and soft it is. It applies the powder very well because it holds a lot of product and distributes it evenly. Personally I have the Tarte Airbuki, which I really do love for applying powder foundation so I may try it with this. And after looking on the website I really want to try the Refill-Me Refillable Loose Powder Brush. It looks like it will be so easy for travel or morning when you are in a rush, because instead of needing a brush and your foundation you just have to pack one thing.
And can we just talk about how amazing the bag is? It zips, it is a super elegant silver colour, and it has a flipping mirror on the inside. I am so going to be using this bag as a travel makeup kit, throw in some blush, a mini mascara, some eyeliner, a little eyeshadow palette (check out these super cool ones from jane iredale) and some lippy and you are all set. This is the perfect bag to throw in even a smaller purse, especially for sleepovers or gym trips.
I also just want to give the whole company jane iredale a huge A+ for their values and what they focus on. I think combining makeup with skincare is brilliant, and including good for you ingredients is something I can really appreciate. They are a high end company with values and want you to have gorgeous skin! Not to mention they are cruelty free which is so important to me because animals shouldn't have to suffer in order for us to have nice cosmetics.
Overall I give this kit a huge thumbs up. Definitely an A, and I would give it an overall rating of 9/10. The only reason I am docking a point is that the shade is a little off for me, but I am also really pale so I almost always use the lightest shade. Another very cool thing about jane iredale is that when you look at their foundations or blushes the colours are broken down by Warm, Cool or Neutral, so if you know your undertones you can really get the perfect foundation. And if you don't know your undertones you an make an accurate guess. Personally I have both pink and yellow undertones so I always reach for Neutral toned products.
They also sent me an extra little gift including mini's of the PureLash Extender and Conditioner mascara primer, LipDrink SPF 15 Lip Balm, Powder-Me SPF 30 Dry Sunscreen and Dream Tint SPF 15 in Medium Light. This was a very sweet treat, I haven't tried these yet but as soon as I do I will post a separate review. I am especially excited to try the dry sunscreen. I know personally I am really bad about applying sun protection throughout the day so I think this is brilliant because it is a powder that you can use over makeup and get 40 minutes of sun protection.
